Five Things to Tackle this Summer

Summer MemoriesAre you in the process of planning out what you’re going to do this summer? Are you taking a trip? Starting a new job? Moving to a new state?   1. Read a great book. Right now, the New York Times Best Seller list is full of fabulous reads. If you’re a fan of fiction, try Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. If you’re in the mood for something empowering, pick up a copy of The Power, by Rhonda Byrne.


  1. Enjoy nature. Find time to take a hike, spend time at the lake, enjoy a sunrise or sunset, bird watch, or spend some time outdoors soaking in the sun. Better yet, leave your phone at home! We all need a little time away every so often.


  1. Make time for you. It’s so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. With work, extracurricular activities, cleaning the house, you name it – the list just never ends! Try and make some time for you this summer, even if that means literally penciling it into your busy schedule.


  1. Get active. If it’s been awhile since you’ve worked up a sweat, now is the time to make a change! Adding exercise to your routine will not only improve your health, but will help release endorphins – a key component to your overall mood and outlook on life!


  1. Pay it forward. Volunteering, carving out time for an old friend, helping someone in need or participating in another act of giving back will not only help someone else out, but will make you feel better. We tend to get so caught up in our own lives it’s easy to forget what a huge difference lending a hand can make.


So, in addition to that family trip, the big move, or whatever else you have planned this summer – try adding a few of the above to your list of things to do. We promise you won’t regret it!

It’s an emotion the majority of us view as 100% conditional – solely based on our current situation, the events that happened to us today, last week, earlier in the month, or even years ago – our finances, mortgage payments, how things are going with our significant others… The list itself could fill an entire blog!

We, as human beings, can’t help but think our happiness and overall well-being is dependent upon these things – external factors that continue to serve as the driving force behind the energy we exert into the world.

Thoughts like, “I would be happy … but my wife left me,” or “I would be happy if I could just lose those 15 extra lbs,” play on loop for so many of us, sucking us down into a whirlwind of negative thoughts and emotions we just can’t seem to shake.

We know you know what we’re talking about … and it’s never any fun, is it?

It feels like there’s always something preventing us from reaching our fullest and highest potential when it comes to living a life filled with joy.

Well – guess what, friends?

Every one of us holds the ability to make this life-changing decision within.

Each and every day, the power is yours to wake up and ask yourself, “Do I want to be happy or not?” regardless of whatever comes your way. You can either choose to be happy and stay above the negative energy, or choose to get sucked down. It’s really that simple.

Even better, by choosing to stay above the energy, you’ll be exerting your newfound positive thoughts and emotions into the universe, which will inevitably result in that lovely domino effect we’ve come to know and love …

What does that mean? There will be more happy people in the world!

This truly might be the most important realization you’ll experience in your lifetime.

When you begin to accept the idea that the power to be happy is yours, and then choose happiness, your world will begin to change.

Our time is so limited here on this earth, – why anyone would ever answer “no” to that question, seems downright absurd.
