It seems like the 4th of July snuck up on us this year. How is it July already?? Half the year has passed and that means it’s time to celebrate the founding of our great country! There are so many ways to celebrate. You could go completely traditional, or you could have your own traditions. Or if you need some ideas for what to do, we’ve compiled a list of tried and true favorites for you to choose from. Enjoy and Happy 4th!
The 4th of July doesn’t seem complete without a parade. No matter how big or small, a parade really makes the day. The excitement for it builds throughout the day. You have to get there early to stake out your spot. You have to plan where is the best spot to be to see all the action, to get the best candy, the most shade, the quickest escape… whatever is most important to you. Whatever it is, the whole day you’re thinking about it, and it’s always a hit!
Another focus of the 4th is the food. The most common thing that comes to mind is grilling. You can’t spend a 4th of July without grilling something, right? You could go all out and make some delicious barbeque, or keep it simple with hamburgers, brats and hot dogs. Don’t forget, hot dogs are almost a mascot of the holiday with Nathan’s annual hot dog eating contest. End your day with some delicious apple pie and ice cream. It doesn’t get much more patriotic than that!
You absolutely cannot spend a 4th of July with seeing fireworks. If you do nothing else, you have to find a fireworks show. It’s the best way to end the day. No matter how long the show, there is always a great grand finale. You don’t have to let someone else solely put on the show for you. You can go get some small fireworks for yourself. Everyone loves a good sparkler. There are plenty of other fun and safe fireworks you can purchase as well, but make sure to check your state laws before having your own backyard show.
It’s nearly impossible to spend the day without spotting an American flag somewhere. If you attend one of the activities above, you are sure to see one. Even if you just head to the store, we guarantee you’ll see one. We say that you embrace the day and fly the flag yourself. Hang one outside your home. Paint one on your cheek. Wherever you can, go for it!
Last, but most certainly not least, one of the best ways to celebrate the 4th of July is to wear the colors of our great country: red, white and blue. Most other days of the year people shy away from wearing the combo to avoid looking like they’re dressing up for the holiday, but today, you can where all the stars and stripes and combinations of the 3 colors you can imagine. Paint your nails, dye your hair, whatever you can think of. It’s only the 4th of July once a year after all!
