How to Survive Your Office Holiday Party

Tis the season for office holiday parties. You and all of your coworkers to a break from the end of the year madness to come together and celebrate the season. Some get nervous for big office get-togethers, but with our tips, you’ll not only survive your office holiday party, but you’ll probably have some fun too.


  1. GO! Happy-business-group-people

The first step into having a successful holiday party, is going to your office holiday party. You don’t want to be the one person that doesn’t go, or the person who misses out on the group picture. You don’t have to stay all night, but be respectful and make an appearance. You’ll probably have some fun while you’re there.

Food is not guaranteed at every office party. You don’t want to be sitting around all night with your stomach growling. Additionally, you don’t want to be drinking on an empty stomach. Even if the party does have food, you may be a picky eater, so it’s smart to start your stomach off with a little something so you don’t go hungry all night.

  1. Follow the Dress Code 

Make sure you know the dress code and follow it! If it’s casual, you probably don’t want to show up in a ball gown. Alternatively, if it’s formal, you don’t want to show up in jeans. This shows respect to the organizers, and makes you look more pulled together.

Now is a great time to mingle with new people you haven’t met yet. But it’s also a great time to leave the office talk behind! We all know words can start flowing freely when we’ve had a drink or two, but be mindful to keep your conversations light and professional, after all, these still are your coworkers.

  • Don’t double dip
  • Drink with your left hand to leave your right free for hand shakes
  • Don’t be the first to leave
  • Drink a glass of water between each cocktail
  • Don’t drink and drive
  • Thank the organizers before you go
