You know how the saying goes; April showers bring May flowers. As April and its month of rain showers comes to an end this weekend, we wanted to provide you a handy list of ideas to get you through our “last” wet weekend. Productive, fun, and simply silly, we’ve got ideas for everyone.
- Movies and Books
The first thing that comes to mind for me on a rainy day is bundling up on the couch and watching all of my favorite movies or any movies I’ve been meaning to watch but haven’t gotten around to. Alternatively, it’s a perfect day to catch up on reading and finally finish that book that you haven’t made time for.
- Meal Prep
A rainy day is a perfect day to spend in the kitchen. Plan out your meals for the upcoming week and go ahead and make them. When done, separate out into individual servings and you’ll be set for the whole week! Don’t forget dessert! It’s a great day for baking, too.
- Go Swimming
Sounds weird, right? But if you’re swimming you’ll already be wet so the rain won’t bother you. See if you can find an open outdoor pool first, but if not, any indoor will work too. There’s just something special about swimming on a rainy day.
There’s something about rain that makes me tired and want to sleep more than usual. Something about those cloudy skies just beg for a nap. Grab a cozy blanket, plop down on the couch, and settle in for the best nap you’ve had in a long time!
- Start a New Hobby or Catch Up on an Old One
Once upon a time, were you a crocheting aficionado? What about knitting? Take the day to pull out the yarn and knitting needles and dust off your skills. Or if you don’t have an old hobby you want to work on, try a new one you’ve been interested in for a while. Painting, drawing, meditation, blogging, yoga, or anything else that interests you. Give it a go!
- Work Out
Go to your local gym, find a new gym, pop in a workout video at home, or freestyle it. There are tons of ways to exercise, you just have to find the one that works best for you. If you don’t like other people being around, dust off your old workout dvds and burn some calories in your living room. No dvds? YouTube has plenty of options that you can watch. Or, search on Pinterest for at home workouts. You’ll be surprised at how many you’ll find!
Take care of yourself with some much-needed personal TLC. Manicure, pedicure, massage, bubble math? Whatever sounds appealing to you, do it. Look up some DIY at home treatments that you can make with ingredients around your house to enhance your TLC day even more.
- Clean and Clean Out
It’s not the most fun thing to do anytime, but it’s much better to work on inside chores on a rainy day rather than a sunny day. When it’s nice out, it’s hard to bring myself to work on anything indoors. Despite the rainy day making me feel lazy and tired, it’s the best day to clean your home, go through your closet or your pantry, do laundry, and other tedious inside chores. Make the most of the rain keeping you inside so you can spend all of your sunny ones outside!
- Plant Some Succulents
No green thumb? No problem! Succulents are some of the easiest plants to take care of and the easiest to plant. There are a lot of creative containers you can plant them in like jars, cans, bowls, baskets, and more. They don’t take much watering and they have lots of great benefits like air purification, improved concentration, memory and productivity, and fire proofing your home because of their high moisture content.
- Visit an Animal Shelter
What could be better than seeing a bunch of puppies and kittens? Not much, if you ask me! Every year on April 30th (that’s this weekend!) National Adopt a Shelter Pet day is observed. There are so many shelter animals that need homes. Stop by your local animal shelter and find your new furry family member. Not only will it change your life, but it will save theirs!
What are your favorite things to do when it rains?
